Conformal Coating is the last step (optional) in the board level assembly process. Standard coating being 1-3mils in thickness (up to 6mils) protects your board from the environment. It prevents damage from corrosion, moisture and electrical shorts, in turn increasing reliability and board life. This process is crucial in any application that exposes your board to the elements or environment.
A lot of money has been invested in bringing your board to production, and when it reaches the conformal coating stage the board is 99% complete. Since rework is difficult and costly, it is imperative that the house that performs this operation is reliable, has an excellent track record and extensive knowledge in handling these coating materials. |
