Design For Assembly
Design for manufacturing and design for assembly (DFA) often go hand in hand. Here at Smart Electronics, we practice both DFM and DFA. DFA is the systematic analysis of product design, with the intent to reduce assembly costs by simplifying the design. The first part of this is reducing the number of parts in the product design; the second part is ensuring the remaining parts can be easily assembled.
Typically, we have found that DFA also results in higher quality and reliability, as well as a reduction in part inventory and production equipment needed. We utilize design for assembly in new product design as well as re-engineering existing products.
